Meet my fondant family.

Last Wednesday the dessert club had started the production for the gingerbread display that will be in Pioneer Place during the holiday season. The theme is international celebrations. I should make some thing for other cultural holiday celebrations. I should do a little homework. I had the choice of either constructing a gingerbread house or making fondant decorations for the village. I decided that fondant was the way to go. I had never made fondant anything before, but it’s a lot like play dough. Fun. First you have to form a rough idea, then dye your fondant to the correct color and shade, then mold and sculpt and manipulate the dough into shapes. Then stick those different pieces together to create things. Another girl in the club made penguins, Christmas trees and presents. I made a happy holiday couple. They are quite the characters. This week I’m not sure what I’ll be making, but I’m excited to be back in the advanced pastry classroom this Wednesday.
