Knife skills 8-23-07

I am the proud owner of brand-spanking new, high-quality, stainless steel Messermeister knives and kitchen tools. Messermeister is “premier German cutlery”. It’s amazing how smooth of a cut they make into a fragrantly ripe pineapple, or the ease they provide when skinning a kiwi. Lucky for me, today did not end in blood or band-aids. Others were not as fortunate. According to my very educated and experienced instructor, Chef Josh, one student this week at WCI had band-aids on 9 of his 10 fingers. Apparently in the 1st week or 2, there’s always a handful of students who make their way to the hospital for sutures. Honestly, I’m more worried about a puncture wound from my apple corer, that thing is SHARP. —K
